Quiz Team Wins Trophy at Faulkner Tournament

The Northeast Alabama Community College Quiz Team recently placed third out of twelve two-year colleges from Alabama, Florida and Mississippi. The teams competed in a Jeopardy-style competition/tournament on October 4 at Faulkner State Community College in Gulf Shores.

The Northeast Quiz Team members Andrew Burdette, Jake Hicks, Matt Hosch and Candice Lynch finished seven rounds of competition with a 5-2 record, qualifying them for the playoffs.

In the playoffs, Northeast defeated Bevill State Community College-Jasper, but lost to Gulf Coast Community College of Panama City, Florida. The first place winner of the tournament was Chipola Community College of Marianna, Florida.

Northeast’s Jake Hicks, in his first college tournament, placed fifth on his individual performance with 320 points. A total of 73 college students competed in this event.

Dr. Daphne Huntley, co-sponsor of the Northeast Quiz Team, said, “We are so pleased to see Northeast students excel in academic competition; however, this result would not have been possible without the support and enthusiasm of the Northeast administration, faculty and staff. Everyone helps out wherever he or she can. The team and I are deeply grateful for that.”
