Chapman Chosen Most Outstanding Faculty Member

Misty Chapman, instructor of biology at Northeast Alabama Community College, has been chosen as the Dr. Charles M. Pendley Founders’ Chair Most Outstanding Faculty Member for 2013-2014. The announcement was made recently by the Founders’ Chair Committee at a luncheon at the college.

Dr. David Campbell, President of NACC, welcomed guests to the luncheon honoring Chapman. “This is a very special occasion for us,” he said. “Teaching is what we are all about here at Northeast. We have an outstanding faculty and many of those previously chosen are here today to honor Ms. Misty Chapman. The committee has a challenge each year in selecting among those nominated. Lora Mae, Joyce, Pat and Kathy have done well adding Ms. Chapman to the ranks of those already honored.”

Lora Mae Davis, Chair of the Founders’ Chair Committee made the announcement. She said, “It is always a pleasure to be with you to announce the recipient of the Founders’ Chair Award. This year we are proud to announce this will be our 30th year to recognize another outstanding faculty member.” She said to Chapman, “Your contribution is evident by all the success this college has achieved. We are proud of you and thank you for your dedication and loyalty. This award carries a $500 stipend, a plaque presented at graduation and your name placed on a plaque displayed at the college.”

Davis added, “We would like to thank Dr. David Campbell, his assistant Pat Wildman, Dr. Joe Burke, and his assistant Angie Stewart for their continued help and support in this program. A special thanks to the SGA president, Vanessa Trotman for helping with this program. We are proud of all you have accomplished. We would also like to thank Debra Barrentine, Director of Promotions and Marketing, for keeping the communities and all of us informed on the awards and activities of this College.

“This year’s recipient has given more than five years of service to Northeast as biology instructor and meets all the criteria outlined by this committee. It is my pleasure to announce Misty Chapman as the outstanding Faculty Member for 2013-2014,” concluded Davis.

Chapman was very appreciative for being chosen. “It’s a privilege and an honor to work at an institution that is dedicated to excellence by maintaining elevated standards in academia and progressively ensuring that the principles of the ‘Community’ College are expressed at every level, in every department,” she said. “I am proud and humbly honored to receive an award in which the previous recipients are the founders and contributors of NACC’s excellence, as well as the staples of the communities in which NACC serves. I am blessed to be given the opportunity to share my love for biology and passion for education with the students of NACC. I work with the best and serve the best!”

Chapman has been at Northeast since 2009. She holds BS and MS degrees from Jacksonville State University. She is a Biology instructor and advisor. She resides in Attalla, Alabama.

“This award lets us recognize those instructors that do such a great job of teaching and supporting our students,” added Campbell. “We thank the committee for their work.”
