The Nursing Assistant program at Northeast Alabama Community
College begins new classes Monday, April 14, 2008. The current
Nursing Assistant program has been improved and is now using the
ProCare Curriculum, which was jointly developed by the American
Health Care Association and Interactive Health Network. Students

and 20 hours of clinical hands-on experience. The new classroom
curriculum is based on lecture and interactive DVDs in which
students gains a real-world insight for their future career.
Students who successfully complete 11
weeks of training are eligible to take the state license exam to
become a Certified Nursing Assistant. Program director, Rachel
Walker states, “The best benefit of the program is the student
can take the state certification exam at the college and not
have to go out of town to other testing sites.”
There continues to be a huge demand for
Certified Nursing Assistants in long-term care and home health
careers. According to Julie Cohen, Skills Training Coordinator,
“Many students begin jobs before program completion. Instructors
are highly trained and enthusiastic about the participants and
their ability to begin a new career.”
