New Health-Care Programs at Northeast

Northeast Alabama Community College continues to expand its programs in health-related fields through a partnership with Wallace State Community College at Hanceville. The colleges are adding programs in Respiratory Therapy and Physical Therapy, pending final approval from the Alabama State Board of Education.

Programs in Radiology and Pharmacy Technology already are offered through this partnership.

“With the opening of our Teleconference Center in our new Technology and Health Education Building, we are now able to provide more programs through distance education,” stated Dr. David Campbell, NACC President. “Through our arrangement with Wallace State Hanceville, students may now take their academic courses at Northeast and then through teleconferencing and on-campus lectures complete their requirements for these degrees.”

Northeast and Wallace State Hanceville plan to jointly open a laboratory for the Respiratory Therapy program in the fall. Students in Respiratory Therapy, and the other health-related programs in the partnership, will be able to do their clinical requirements for their degrees locally.

“One of the key reasons for our being able to establish these partnerships with Wallace State Hanceville is the high level of technology that we have at Northeast,” stated Dr. Joe Burke, NACC Vice President/Dean of Instruction. “Our Teleconference Center is state-of-the-art and thanks to Farmers Telecommunications and the Alabama SuperComputer Authority, we have very strong distance learning transmission signals.” Senator Lowell Barron also assisted the college through funding for the Teleconference Center.

Campbell noted that these health-related programs have been very popular through the years. Until now, however, students did not have them available locally. “We recognize that health-care needs are in great demand now and in the coming years. We of course had these needs in mind when we built our Technology and Health Education Building. These partnership programs with Wallace State Hanceville are another way that we can provide the health care training needs for people in our service area.”
