New Chemistry and Physical Science
Instructor
Rodney Land of Rainsville has been named full-time instructor of
Chemistry and Physical Science at Northeast Alabama Community
College. He has taught part time chemistry and physical science
courses at Northeast for the past 15 years.
In
addition to his experience as a part-time instructor at
Northeast, Land has taught Chemistry I, II and physics at the
high school level for 26 years. For the last two years, he has
been involved with developing and implementing online courses in
physical science. Over the last 13 years, he has been very
involved with Science in Motion, a state-sponsored program which
is available through the University of Alabama in Huntsville. It
provides 40 to 60 hours of annual training in chemistry lab
techniques and provides equipment that can be used by the
schools in this region. Land has also participated in a one-year
training course at the University of Alabama at Birmingham for
teachers in areas of lab safety and management.
During his tenure as a high school
teacher, Land served as Science Department head, Key Club
advisor, and member of the faculty advisory committee and school
improvement team. He also served on five Southern Association of
Colleges and Schools visiting committees and on both a principal
and a superintendent search committee.
“Northeast has been an important part of
my life for over 30 years,” said Land. “I have seen the
advantages of NACC as a student, parent and teacher. It is an
honor and privilege for me to be a part of the NACC faculty. I
really look forward to my work here.”
Land has an A.S. degree from Northeast
Alabama Community College, B.S. and M.Ed. degrees from Auburn
University, and an Ed.S. certification from the University of
Alabama at Birmingham. He holds a Class AA Alabama Teaching
Certificate with endorsements in Chemistry and General Science
and is certified in Lab Management and Safety from the National
Science Foundation and UAB. He was Fort Payne High School’s
Teacher of the Year in 1985, 2000 and 2005 and received the
Kiwanis Distinguished Service Award in 1991 and 2002. Land is a
member of AEA, NEA, National Science Teachers Association, the
American Chemical Society, and Broadway Baptist Church. |
