New Chemistry and Physical Science Instructor

Rodney Land of Rainsville has been named full-time instructor of Chemistry and Physical Science at Northeast Alabama Community College. He has taught part time chemistry and physical science courses at Northeast for the past 15 years.

Rodney Land, Instructor of Chemistry and Physical ScienceIn addition to his experience as a part-time instructor at Northeast, Land has taught Chemistry I, II and physics at the high school level for 26 years. For the last two years, he has been involved with developing and implementing online courses in physical science. Over the last 13 years, he has been very involved with Science in Motion, a state-sponsored program which is available through the University of Alabama in Huntsville. It provides 40 to 60 hours of annual training in chemistry lab techniques and provides equipment that can be used by the schools in this region. Land has also participated in a one-year training course at the University of Alabama at Birmingham for teachers in areas of lab safety and management.

During his tenure as a high school teacher, Land served as Science Department head, Key Club advisor, and member of the faculty advisory committee and school improvement team. He also served on five Southern Association of Colleges and Schools visiting committees and on both a principal and a superintendent search committee.

“Northeast has been an important part of my life for over 30 years,” said Land. “I have seen the advantages of NACC as a student, parent and teacher. It is an honor and privilege for me to be a part of the NACC faculty. I really look forward to my work here.”

Land has an A.S. degree from Northeast Alabama Community College, B.S. and M.Ed. degrees from Auburn University, and an Ed.S. certification from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He holds a Class AA Alabama Teaching Certificate with endorsements in Chemistry and General Science and is certified in Lab Management and Safety from the National Science Foundation and UAB. He was Fort Payne High School’s Teacher of the Year in 1985, 2000 and 2005 and received the Kiwanis Distinguished Service Award in 1991 and 2002. Land is a member of AEA, NEA, National Science Teachers Association, the American Chemical Society, and Broadway Baptist Church.
