Junior Mustang Bowl Held at NACC
Fourteen area high school teams gathered at Northeast Alabama
Community College recently to match wits. Three teams went home
with hard-won trophies.
Northeast hosted its Junior Mustang Bowl on January 27, 2007. All
area high school teams were invited to attend. The teams
competed in several rounds of Jeopardy-style academic
competition.
The prize winning teams were Cherokee County's Sand Rock High
School (first place), Marshall County's Douglas High School
(second place) and DeKalb County's Plainview High School (third
place).
"We are proud to host this event and pleased to have so many
students, coaches, and parents on campus," said Northeast's Dr.
Joe Burke. "It was exciting to see these high school students
demonstrate such excellent intellectual skills during the
competitions."
Other competing teams included Pisgah High School, Kate Duncan
Smith DAR School, North Sand Mountain High School, and Fort
Payne High School.
Three individual students took awards for their individual
performance in competition. Chase Ward, a senior from Sand Rock
High School won first place with a 103.7 average. Matt Pankey of
DAR won second place, and Anthony Burdette of Pisgah won third
place.
Papa John's Pizza, Coca-Cola and Mayfield Ice Cream donated
lunch for the competition.
The competition was licensed through the National Association of
Quiz Teams, LLC, which conducts high school and college
competitions throughout the United States, Canada, and the
United Kingdom.
