Huntley Chosen Most Outstanding Faculty Member at NACC

Dr. Daphne Huntley, English Instructor at Northeast Alabama Community College, has been chosen as the Dr. Charles M. Pendley Founders’ Chair Most Outstanding Faculty Member for 2007-08. Dr. Huntley is in her eleventh year as full-time English Instructor and coaches the college’s Quiz Team. She holds a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree from Auburn University and a juris doctorate from The University of Akron. A resident of Scottsboro, Dr. Huntley has two daughters, Allison and Meredith.

The announcement was made recently at the college by Joyce Kennamer, member of the Founders’ Chair Committee, who stated, "This year’s recipient has given ten plus years of service to Northeast as an English Instructor and meets all the criteria outlined by the committee. She is an outstanding teacher and leader. It is my pleasure to announce Dr. Daphne Huntley as the Outstanding Faculty Member for 2007-2008."

Upon receiving the award, Dr. Huntley expressed appreciation to the committee and said, “I am honored to be named among the college’s outstanding faculty members, for this faculty is wholly committed to student achievement and excellence. I accept this award not as an assessment of what I am, but of what I aspire to be.”

As recipient of the award, Dr. Huntley also receives a cash stipend, is featured in the NACC yearbook, is recognized at graduation, and has her name placed on a plaque displayed at the College.

“Teaching is the heart of what we do at Northeast as an educational institution. Dr. Daphne Huntley is a perfect representative of the outstanding Instructors that we have at Northeast,” stated NACC President, Dr. David Campbell. “Dr. Huntley is an exceptional and talented Instructor who is admired and respected by students and her colleagues alike. She has rare and unique abilities as an Instructor and she is so great at communicating with students. Additionally, Dr. Huntley helps the college in any way she can, whether it’s chairing job search committees or establishing and sponsoring our Mustang Quiz Bowl Team. We are very proud of Dr. Huntley and her recognition with this award.”

On behalf of the Dr. Charles M. Pendley Founders’ Chair Committee, Joyce Kennamer observed, "During the year, we have the opportunity to learn more about faculty members, their qualifications, contributions, and accomplished endeavors that make Northeast Alabama Community College the most outstanding college in this area." She added, "Thanks to Dr. David Campbell and his assistant Pat Wildman, Dr. Joe Burke and his assistant Angie Stewart, for their help and support in this program. A special thanks to the SGA President, Matthew Hubbard, for his help and hard work in this effort. Matthew, we wish you well in your future challenges."

The committee is composed of community members who volunteer their time annually to study nominations, which are submitted by students and employees of the college. After the SGA collects the letters of nomination, the committee meets to determine the most outstanding faculty member of the year. Lora Mae Davis chairs the Dr. Charles M. Pendley Founders’ Chair Committee, and members include Joyce Kennamer, Pat Freeman, and Kathy Cook.
