High-Tech Fiber Optics Training Offered at Northeast Alabama Community College

Northeast Alabama Community College, in partnership with the BDI DataLynk, will present a series of Fiber Optic training courses in June. Training includes both classroom instruction and hands-on participation.

The 3-day introductory Basic Fiber Optics (CFOT) course is designed for anyone interested in becoming a Certified Fiber Optics Technician. Training will be Wednesday, June 18 through Friday, June 20. This training prepares a participant to take the Certified Fiber Optics Technician exam given at the end of the course. Cost of the three-day COFT training is $600, which includes textbooks, study materials, course CD, award of completion, 1-year membership to the Fiber Optics Association, and exam.

The Certified Fiber Optics Specialist in Testing and Maintenance (CFOS/T) course is a 2-day program designed to offer advanced training to anyone involved with the testing and maintenance of fiber optic networks. Training is scheduled for Monday and Tuesday, June 23 and 24. Cost of the two-day CFOS/T training is $575, which includes textbooks, study materials, course CD, award of completion, and exam. Participants must have passed the Basic Certified Fiber Optics Technician exam to take this class.

The Certified Fiber Optics Splicing Specialist (CFOS/S) course is a 2-day course, scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday, June 25 and 26. Knowledgeable instructors explain the importance of high performance splicing and detail the points necessary to achieve these splices. Cost of the two-day CFOS/S training is $575, which includes textbooks, study materials; course CD, award of completion, and exam. Participants must have passed the Basic Certified Fiber Optics Technician exam to take this class.

Courses will be held on the NACC campus from 8:00 am until 5:00 pm. Interested participants should have a basic working knowledge of computers, be able to identify small items, and be able to speak and understand the English language. The Electronics Technicians Association magazine recently reported, “With the right training and education, techs can easily scale the fiber optics learning curve and increase their earnings.”
