SOCIAL/BUSINESS ETIQUETTE
Social/Business Etiquette will be taught by June Guthier of Scottsboro. Ms. Guthier is a certified consultant and a member of The Etiquette Institute, an international organization whose mission is to instill confidence, self esteem, and respect for others, by blending the standards of traditional etiquette with contemporary manners. According to Guthier, “Social etiquette and manners are a way of life.” As we continue to face the challenges of ever-changing technology, success in today’s business world requires more than an MBA and knowing “who’s who.” Good people skills and professional poise are essential. Well-mannered, confident employees provide the needed edge in today’s aggressive, consumer-driven economy.
This class is designed to teach the interpersonal skills required for corporate survival. A young professional with self esteem becomes the senior executive with confidence and a positive self image. Good manners apply to everyone in the workplace and help to increase employee morale, enhance the company’s image, and contribute to profitability.
This class is designed for anyone entering the workforce, especially young people just out of high school or college, but is also open to others who wish to enhance their business skills. Topics covered will include communication (introductions, conversation, telephone, body language); first impressions; meetings; business travel; job interview; coworker courtesy; appearance; socializing.

CLASSES will meet on Tuesday evenings from 6:00 to 8:00 September 11, 18, 25, and October 2 in room WA112.

COST for tuition is $70.00, which includes handouts and materials needed for the class and a tutorial dining session. Deadline to register is September 5.

INSTANT PIANO FOR HOPELESSLY BUSY PEOPLE

A one-day (3 1/2 hour) workshop entitled "Instant Piano for Hopelessly Busy People" will be taught this fall at Northeast Alabama Community College. It teaches the chord approach to playing the piano, which is desirable to many adults. It teaches students to play by looking at the chord symbols that are in most popular music today, instead of reading all the notes the traditional way. This is literally a musically correct, but "shorthand", way of playing that produces instant success in playing popular songs with both hands during this one-day workshop, even with total beginners. A roomful of people can be taught with just one piano in the room. Each student has a dummy keyboard at his seat, and then takes home a 32-page book and 68-minute practice CD with which a technique can be perfected on the student’s own piano and leisure.

The instructor is David Haynes of Ringgold, Georgia. “I make the class a fun evening, but students often say they learn more in these few hours than they have in five years of piano lessons,” said Haynes. “This workshop does not conflict with a regular piano program, because my students are generally not interested in regular classical piano studies.”

During the past eight years Haynes has taught this workshop in 170 colleges and 17 community programs and arts centers in 20 states, all to rave reviews. This same workshop has enjoyed phenomenal success at hundreds of college and university extension programs in California, Hawaii, Oregon, and many other states since 1982, and the methodology has recently been featured nationally on public television as “Piano In a Flash”.

Haynes has a master’s of music education from Andrews University in Michigan; a bachelor’s of music education and a bachelor’s of German from Southern College in Tennessee; and an associate degree in computer science from the College of DuPage in Illinois.

CLASS will be taught on Monday, October 29, from 1:00 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. or 6:00 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. in the new Workforce Development Building, room 132.

BOOK AND CD: The instructor will collect $25 in class for a book and CD.

COST of the class is $50, payable to the College. If you can’t read notes, send a self-addressed stamped envelope for a free pamphlet to Music Masters, 90 Molly Lane, Ringgold, GA 30736.
