Northeast Alabama Community College recently hosted a Career Quest, part of the national campaign Dream It! Do It!, for Advanced Manufacturing through a teleconference event on campus. Career Quest, an outreach of Sci-Quest in Huntsville, is a program designed to introduce middle, high school and early college-aged students to the high-growth career fields in the Tennessee Valley by providing them an opportunity to meet career professionals in these focus areas. Seeking to reach a wider audience, Sci-Quest partnered with NACC in this first joint teleconference event.

In addition to the teleconference information, NACC instructors, career coaches, and industry representatives were on hand to answer questions about local industry needs and potential job opportunities in the field of Advanced Manufacturing. One of the local industry leaders participating in the event was GH Metal Solutions from Fort Payne.

Dream It! Do It! is a national campaign intended to recruit young career seekers into the exciting field of Advanced Manufacturing. A video, filmed in Northeast Alabama, highlighted community colleges and the programs offered to prepare students for the careers. The video was included in the Career Quest presentation.

To encourage student participation, NACC offered a $1000 Technical Scholarship in the field of Advanced Manufacturing to one eligible student in attendance. The winner of the scholarship was Zach Taylor from Sylvania.

The event was held in the Workforce Development building. For more information, contact Sherry Whitten, Director of the College and Career Planning Center at NACC at phone extension 315, or by e-mail at whittens@nacc.edu.
