Social/Business Etiquette Offered as Community Education Course

Northeast Alabama Community College is pleased to announce that Social/Business Etiquette will be taught by June Guthier of Scottsboro. Ms. Guthier is a certified consultant and a member of The Etiquette Institute, an international organization whose mission is to instill confidence, self esteem, and respect for others, by blending the standards of traditional etiquette with contemporary manners. According to Guthier, “Social etiquette and manners are a way of life.” As we continue to face the challenges of ever-changing technology, success in today’s business world requires more than an MBA and knowing “who’s who.” Good people skills and professional poise are essential. Well-mannered, confident employees provide the needed edge in today’s aggressive, consumer-driven economy.

This class is designed to teach the interpersonal skills required for corporate survival. A young professional with self esteem becomes the senior executive with confidence and a positive self image. Good manners apply to everyone in the workplace and help to increase employee morale, enhance the company’s image, and contribute to profitability.

This class is designed for anyone entering the workforce, especially young people just out of high school or college, but is also open to others who wish to enhance their business skills. Topics covered will include communication (introductions, conversation, telephone, body language); first impressions; meetings; business travel; job interview; coworker courtesy; appearance; socializing.

Classes will meet on Thursday evenings from 5:30 – 8:30 July 19, July 26, and August 2, in WA112.

Cost for tuition is $76.25, which includes handouts and materials needed for the class and a tutorial dining session. Students may register by contacting Pat Bridgeman in the Office of Workforce Development, room 148, Pendley Administration Building, or by mail to the attention of Pat Bridgeman, Community Services Coordinator, Northeast Alabama Community College, P O Box 159, Rainsville AL 35986. Deadline to register is July 11.
