Algebra I Bowl Held for Local Schools;
Woodville Student Wins
Mu Alpha Theta, the mathematics honor society at Northeast
Alabama Community College, recently hosted an Algebra I Bowl on
Saturday morning, April 12, 2008. Students from Collinsville
High School, Crossville High School, Pisgah High School,
Scottsboro Junior High School, Section High School, and
Woodville High School participated in the event. Parents,
sponsors, students, and guests were treated to refreshments
provided by the Mu Alpha Theta sponsors.
Students took a written exam and the
overall individual high score was earned by Brook Stewart of
Woodville High School. The Mu Alpha Theta Officers presented her
with a new TI-83+ graphing calculator valued at $100, a
commemorative certificate, and a bag of m&m’s (because "math
matters").
While the students took the exam, parents, sponsors, and guests
were treated to a college prep presentation conducted by Tonie
Niblett, Dean of Student Services, and Winnie Yates,
Administrative Assistant to the Dean of Student Services.
