Computer Professionals Attend ACCSISA Conference

Northeast Alabama Community College employees recently attended The Alabama Community College System Information Services Association (ACCSISA) annual conference. The conference provided professional development opportunities and face-to-face time with others from the community college system as well as vendors. Networking with peers is a valuable resource for referrals and best practices.

Attending the conference were Patricia Combs, Director of Educational Technology Support; Judith Lea, Director of the Technology Learning Center; and Kyna Bowman, MIS Coordinator/Assistant Registrar. The conference provided employees new ways of being more productive as well as offered exposure to new vendors and suppliers who fully grasp what is happening inside the technology realm of education.

This year’s conference afforded attendees the opportunity to speak with 25 vendors and hear 20 presentations on wireless, cloud storage, network security, and print management along with other technologies. Blackboard, the college’s web-based Learning Management System (LMS) that enables instructors to provide students with course materials, class discussions, assignments and assessments online presented “Innovations to Support the 21st Century Student.” TekLinks, provider of the college’s VMware, a virtualization and cloud computing software presented “Behind the Curtain of the IT Industry,” a presentation on how to receive the best pricing when making major technology purchases.
