Northeast Students Represent College on
All-Alabama Academic Team
Two Northeast students were honored at an awards program held at
the Wynfrey Hotel in Birmingham recently. Lindsay Durham of
Pisgah and Sherri Townson of Flat Rock were Northeast’s
representatives to the All-Alabama Academic Team. Last fall,
faculty members nominated students who had achieved academic
excellence, had made significant contributions in leadership
roles on campus, and had been active in community service. Eight
nominees submitted their qualifications along with a personal
essay highlighting their experiences at Northeast. Of the eight,
Lindsay Durham and Sherri Townson were selected.
USA Today newspaper, the American Association of Community
Colleges, the Alabama Department of Postsecondary Education, and
Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society honor outstanding
community, junior and technical college students as
representatives of all outstanding students at the nation’s
two-year colleges. The criteria are designed to recognize
students who excel academically; demonstrate intellectual rigor
in their course of study; show academic growth; and use their
two-year college education to better themselves, their schools
and their communities.
