Financing Your Education

If you are a Chapter 30 veteran and you feel you qualify for VA educational assistance benefits, contact the Veterans' Affairs Office in the county in which you reside to complete an Application for VA Benefits. Bring the completed Application for VA Benefits to the Financial Aid Office after you have registered for classes. The Financial Aid Office will submit relevant paperwork to the VA Regional Office in Decatur, Georgia.

If you are a veteran and you feel you qualify for VA Vocational Rehabilitation (Chapter 31) benefits (monthly check, tuition, books, etc.), contact Ruben Neeley or a member of his staff at the Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment Office, 200 Westside Square, Suite 205, Huntsville, AL 35801, phone (256) 518-9122. If you are approved for Chapter 31 benefits, Mr. Neeley or a member of his staff will send notification to NACC's Financial Aid Office. After you register for classes, stop by the Financial Aid Office to discuss submission of your Chapter 31 paperwork to begin your monthly educational assistance check.

If you enlist in the National Guard or Reserves, you may qualify for Chapter 106 VA education benefits (a monthly educational assistance check). Obtain a NOBE (Notice of Basic Eligibility) form from your unit. Bring that form to the Financial Aid Office at Northeast after you have registered for classes; complete an Application for VA Benefits form in the Financial Aid Office, which will submit your paperwork to the VARO.

If you feel you qualify for federal VA educational benefits (a monthly check) based on a parent's or spouse's military service, contact the Veterans' Service office in the county in which you reside and complete the necessary paperwork for submission to the VA Regional Office in Decatur, Georgia. If you are eligible for federal benefits, you will receive a certificate of eligibility for Chapter 35 (federal VA educational) benefits. After you register for classes at Northeast, take the certificate of eligibility for Chapter 35 benefits to the Financial Aid Office so that personnel in that office can certify you for monthly VA benefits.

If you feel you qualify for Alabama benefits (tuition and books) based on a parent's or a spouse's military service, contact the Veterans' Affairs Office in the county in which you reside and complete the necessary paperwork for submission to the VA Regional Office. If you are eligible for Alabama benefits, you will receive a certificate of eligibility which you will supply to the Financial Aid Office when you register. This office takes care of billing for the Alabama GI Dependents' program.

Contact the Financial Aid Office at Northeast for additional information. Benefit eligibility questions must be answered by the VA or Veterans' Service Offices/Veterans' Affairs Offices at the county level or by the VA (www.gibill.va.gov).
