The Northeast Alabama Community College Aurora literary
magazine recently received a Gold Award in the Twenty-second Annual
Admissions Advertising Awards competition by the National Newspaper
of Admissions Marketing—Admissions Marketing Report.
Northeast’s Gold award was in the category of Publication/Internal
Group 2: School with 2,000-4,999 students. In this same category,
other winners included a Silver award to Chapman University in
California, Bronze award to Thomas Nelson Community College in
Virginia, and three Merit awards to Missouri State University,
Southwest Tennessee Community College, and Fairleigh Dickinson
University in New Jersey. A complete listing of all winners in all
categories can be found at the
www.hmrpublicationsgroup.com website.
“The rewards of working on the NACC literary magazine result from
being able to recognize the creative talents of the students at
Northeast. Then to be recognized by winning the gold award in a
national competition which places us against four-year institutions
is an added reward,” said Joan Reeves, Northeast instructor and
Aurora sponsor.
Northeast was the only two-year community college from Alabama to
win one of these coveted awards. The Aurora literary magazine
was submitted for this competition by Debra Barrentine, Director of
Promotions and Marketing at the College.
“Winning a national competition of this nature is a great
accomplishment,” stated Dr. David Campbell, NACC President. “This is
a real testament to the outstanding work that Mrs. Reeves and Sigma
Kappa Delta are doing. We are very proud of them for this
achievement.”
The literary magazine is published annually by the Epsilon Alpha
Chapter of Sigma Kappa Delta and the English and Fine Arts
Department of Northeast Alabama Community College.
