The purpose of this nation-wide program is to recognize scholarly achievement, leadership, and service to the community.

Each year faculty members nominate students to compete to be the Northeast Academic Team honorees.. A panel of judges selects two, who represent Northeast in the for state competition. The national and state competitions are coordinated by Phi Theta Kappa International, the Alabama Community College System, and the Alabama Department of Postsecondary Education.
